About these figures
Florida reports child welfare data by judicial circuit. Pinellas and Pasco make up Circuit 6
and share one lead agency, Family Support Services of SunCoast, so they are reported together
rather than separately. Hillsborough is Circuit 13, served by Children's Network of Hillsborough.
Definitions differ between sources in ways that change the numbers substantially. A count that
excludes children placed with approved relatives is roughly half the size of one that includes
them, because about 43% of children in care in these counties live with relatives. Each tile
names its source and the period it covers, so figures are never compared across incompatible
definitions.
Measures update on different schedules, and Florida marks its most recent months as draft until
they are revised. Figures here are checked against their sources four times a year — in January,
April, July and October — with the January and July reviews following the placement data the state
is required to publish on the first of those months.
